Moths are insects who are guided by the moon as their natural light source, by something known as celestial or transverse orientation. Their bodies are attuned to maintain a constant angular relationship to the brightness of the light of the moon to be able to fly in a straight line, since moths are nocturnal creatures.  Since the introduction of so much artificial light in our modern world moths generally now orient themselves by these sorts of lights now, which can cause them to fly in more circular patterns. I love thinking of ancient moths being led by the moon, and this necklace of tiny 'moons' holds this history, tiny lights to help guide tiny night creatures, or perhaps, to help guide its wearer through the darkness as the season change. 

This strand of our highest quality moonstones also holds the idea of wearing a string of luminous full moons, shining in the darkness of night against your skin. Each luminous rondelle bead contains a flash of beautiful color and is intended to help guide you through the 'darkness' seasonal change can bring, hopefully helping you to 'orient' yourself through the darker seasons.

The Moon, like the Moth, is ancient beyond what we can even comprehend and I find comfort in the idea that all of my ancestors looked up at it at one time or another in wonder. That some of them, like the Moth, used it to guide them in the dark and orient themselves. 

Moonstone: is closely tied to the moon, with some cultures believing the stone is solidified moon rays, while others think of them as embodiments of the moon's tears. Acting as a kind of Psychic armor, it is thought to protect its wearer from not only dark nights, but dark times; it helps sooth grief, loss, and other emotional turbulence. Moonstone is known for its powerful psychic abilities. Used to protect empaths & sensitives from absorbing other people's emotions, it is also is known to be used during meditation for connecting to ones inner selves. As a romantic stone, it is known to strengthen the bonds between lovers when given as gifts, especially during the full moon. These jewels are hand cut and therefore may have very slight differences in size and may have small signs of the carver's hands along the edges. These are not fabricated by a machine, they are made by hand and therefore aren't uniformly perfect. The photographs accurately portray the quality of the stones and the cuts. As a natural stone, clarity and color varies; each bead has been hand selected for its quality.

Please keep in mind that these beads are ‘earth made’ and then each one is hand cut and hand formed. You will see the earth’s inclusions inside and outside each sphere. Nothing is imperfect to me. I see evidence of a jeweler’s or a stone cutter’s hand and I think of Rodin, and how his sculptures included the evidence of his hands - from a hundred plus years ago - and how that connects me and my team, to this lineage of hand-making, in a time when machinated ‘perfect’ work is becoming more and more normalized. I am trying to resist this idea of ‘perfection’, and I implore the same of you. These are all hand made, and earth made beautiful objects, so inherently, by today’s standards, they are ‘imperfect’ - because humans had their hands, and more importantly, their hearts on them.

This strand measures approximately 28.25 inches long from end to end. At its closure is our is our smallest protective Eye clasp, cast in sterling silver, oxidized to our favorite gloomy grey and finished to highlight the shining silver beneath.  

This clasp is tactile in nature making it easily held between the tips of your fingers and rubbed for comfort in times of grief, anxiety, dissociation, as well as during moments of joy and wonder.
