At the time of my writing this to you, we have surpassed the Winter Solstice here in the Northern part of the world  and are entering into the darker days of Winter. These days and nights are a dreamy, sleepy time when we plant dream seeds for Spring ~ when we turn inward like the Hermit and the hibernating bear, when we sleep a little longer if we can and dream a bit more vividly if we are able. In inspiration of this time is a ring for sleep and dreams, named for the God Hypnos, son of Nyx, God of Sleep who exists in a cave in the Underworld from which the River of forgetting, Lethe, flows. Sleep can be a kind of forgetting, an oblivion we can surrender to, the cusp between worlds, the edge of our personal Underworlds where can meet other parts of ourselves, our ancestors, or a place to receive divinatory messages or fleeting pieces of inspiration we can ferry into the waking world. 

This ring is a talismanic vessel to be charged/activated for slowing down, for dreamtime companionship while either asleep or awake, for protection in trance-like states. 

Life cast bat bones were manipulated to create this ring that cradles a fine cut faceted Princess stone, mimicking a baroque mirror.

 Bats and their cast wing and leg bones have long been a component I’ve used in my visual library as a way of creating a personal visual language. As nocturnal creatures, I feel a kinship with their natural predilection for the night time hours, but I’m also interested in how they use sonar to ‘see’, how as a metaphor bats as liminal creatures also remind us to look closer with our other senses, a way of ‘seeing the unseen.’ It’s my hope and intention that pairing them with other chthonic imagery and myth further adds to the visual meaning I’m aiming for, creating a collage of personal ideas while also tethering these physical jeweled objects to the spirit of the bat ( and other natural objects in the case of other jewels in my collection ) and to the spirit of the myths I’m invoking.

- Sits 11mm off of the finger

- Solid sterling silver, oxidized to our favorite shade of gloomy grey, and hand finished to reveal the highlights beneath

- Set with a 16 x 16 mm fine cut clear quartz  

Clear Quartz: 

Despite its ubiquitous accessibility within the crystal kingdom, clear quartz remains one of the most potent crystals one can own, considered to be the 'Master Healer' as it can be used to assist you with any issue. Thought to be a 'memory/record keeper' that enables recall of lost memories, it also helps amplifies spiritual pursuits and increases psychic awareness. The spherical shape, akin to the traditional 'crystal ball,'  has long been a symbol of divination and magic.

These particular clear quartz stones are *almost* completely clear. Some do have very slight inclusions that appear as thin ghostly white wisps. Because they are so limited, we can not accommodate preferences, but know that each stone is hand selected for its natural beauty. 

These jewels are hand cut and therefore may have very slight differences in size and may have small signs of the carver's hands along the edges. These are not fabricated by a machine, they are made by hand and therefore aren't uniformly perfect.

The photographs accurately portray the quality of the stones and the cuts.
